I feel like Basquiat and Keith Haring are two sides of the same coin. Both of them could be considered direct proteges of Andy Warhol, they were rising through the New York art scene at the same time, and both experimented with graffiti. But where Haring’s art style is cartooney and accessible, Basquiat’s is intentionally crude, jagged and aggressive. Maybe that’s why I have a tougher time really getting into Basquiat’s work. I don’t know, I think it’s a really interesting dichotomy.
